Week of Welcome Recap

Hey everybody! **Come to tonight's Keepin' It Reel movie night presenting Killers starring Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher.**

Well the first week of school is OVER. I feel so sorry for you folks that have Friday afternoon classes. It should be illegal that those even exist. I hope all you freshmen were able to find your way around.

Currently we CAB exec are done with our classes for the day and hard at work organizing our new office. Come visit us sometime! We are located at the Student Activity Center in the first room on the left when coming in through the side door (old Greek Life office).

I'm excited about getting a relaxing weekend after classes and WOW.

I hope that everybody who participated in Week of Welcome had a blast. I know CAB did! We started off at the Wellness Depot on move-in day with Health Services and the Depot workers. We were giving out free popsicles and CAB event magnets.

**If you haven't picked up your free event magnet yet, stop by the SAC!**

Health Services also had some awesome giveaways, such as sunblock, hand sanitizer and lip balm! While getting free stuff, students could sign up to use the depot. I had fun listening to music and walking around handing out the popsicles. I even got a free T-shirt from another group's info table. You gotta love free stuff!

That night was CAB Extravaganza! After the Pep Rally, the Armed Farces improvisation troupe started off our event. Armed Farces is a student group that plays improv games like those seen on "Who's Line Is It Anyway?" If you weren't able to catch them last Thursday, be sure to see them at downtown Blackbird Cafe on Thursdays at 8 p.m. You can also check them out on their YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/armedfarcesimprov). In the last game Cameron Jaymes, lead singer of Jaymes Reunion, made a cameo. Who would have thought he's a hot talented musician and a comedian?

After Armed Farces had us laughing our socks (or flip-flops) off, Jaymes Reunion started rocking the stage. They were amazing at last year's Homecoming and didn't disappoint this time around. Jaymes Reunion is made up of lead singer Cameron Jaymes, guitarist Braydon Nelson, bassist Eric Watson, and Jeremy Taylor and Jared Byers alternating percussion. I seriously suggest you check them out on iTunes or MySpace (www.myspace.com/jaymesreunion). They were so great and even stayed to chat with everybody after the show. We were all sitting on the floor of Centennial chatting about baseball and Waffle House.

**If you know of any local bands that you want to play, make sure to leave a comment!**

The next night, Friday the 13th, we continued WOW with hypnotist Frederick Winters. He has the privilege of being voted Best College Entertainer and Best Male Entertainer of 2010. He had selected students forgetting their names, thinking they were three years old and believing there were tiny people trapped in their watches. For those interested in hypnosis, check him out on iTunes where he sells albums about many topics, from quitting smoking to relaxation.

On the last night before classes began, comedian Eric O'Shea had students laugh their nerves away. His Elmo voice and "Songs for Commercials" put tears in people's eyes. You can check him out on YouTube where he already has over four million hits. He's been given positive reviews by Steven Spielberg and given hugs to Carol Burnett and Betty White.

That's it for CAB's Week of Welcome events, but don't feel too bad. The semester of events begins TONIGHT with our movie night, so make sure you are there. As always there will be FREE pizza and some raffles.

Also we have a To Go trip coming up to see the Atlanta Braves in action! Be prepared for lots more events in the future as September is jam-packed.

I hope you have a great first weekend!

Week of Welcome!!!

Hey everybody! It is about that time. We are about to get a bunch of new freshman at GCSU. Like CAB does every year, we are going all out for it! This year we are presenting Jaymes Reunion, Eric O'Shea, and Frederick Winters. This is going to be an amazing Week of Welcome!

So who are these people? I am glad you asked!

Jaymes Reunion is an amazing band that played at GCSU's Homecoming concert last year. They were an instant hit on campus and we are excited they are coming back to play for us again! You can learn more about them on their Facebook page.

Eric O'Shea is a comedian we found at a conference the CAB executive board attended last year. We fell in love with his comedy as soon as he got on stage. He will keep you laughing the entire time! Look for his video's on YouTube.

Frederick Winters is a hypnotist. This will be a hilarious show. While some people will be getting hypnotized, others will be watching all of the crazy things they do. It is unpredictable and the content of this show will be talked about for a long time after week of welcome!

Besides CAB's main events, you will be able to find us at the Wellness Depot on move-in day. We will be handing out free sno-cones to cool you down! We will also be at the Bobcat Marketplace if you would like to find out how to get involved with CAB.

We can't wait for all the freshman to get here to enjoy this with us but you do not have to be a freshman to attend. All CAB events are open to the entire student population and we encourage upperclassmen to attend.

CAB is bringing you summer events!

Did you think that just because it is summer that CAB would not be hosting any fun events for you? Well, you thought wrong! CAB has partnered with BSP (the Bridge Scholars Program) as well as some other organizations on campus to bring you four free events to keep you occupied this summer! The four events include a game/wing night, inflatables, a showing of the movie Bedtime Stories, and laser tag.

Game/Wing night will be held on June 18th in the Sandella's lounge. The event will begin at 7pm and last until 9pm. We will be playing Bingo (with prizes to win, of course) among other games. The wings are free as long as you have your Bobcat ID.

Get your ZZZZ's with CAB, Counseling Services, P.A.W.S., and Adam Sandler while we show Bedtime Stories! The event will take place on June 25th from 7-11pm in the Sandella's lounge. Bring your pillows and blankets to enjoy the movie while learning some helping sleeping tips!

Inflatables will be located on the Village soccer field (behind building 600). The event will be held on June 26th from 2-6pm. Come let the child inside you play on these fun inflatables!

LASER TAG! You do not want to miss this! The event will be held on July 10th from 7-11pm on the Village soccer field. Bring all of your friends and compete against each other! This event is at night so you don't have to worry about the heat.

Keep your eyes open for more CAB events throughout the summer and next semester! All events above are free with a valid Bobcat ID. If you have any suggestions or event ideas, feel free to email us at gcsucab@gmail.com.
